So, instead of facing this necessary chore with drudgery, find opportunities to make the outing a learning experience for your little one.

Step by Step:

1. Count items as you put them in the cart.
2. Name items as you put them in the cart.
3. Point out the shapes, textures, and colors of fruits and vegetables in the produce department.
4. Let your child select one new fruit or vegetable to try on each shopping trip.
5. Encourage your child to assist in simple ways by asking him or her to "hold the bread" or "put the apples in the bag."
