Flying a flag can proclaim your patriotism, your heritage, or your interests. Make some fabulous flags with your child.

Description:
Here's an activity that you can use to teach your child the symbolism behind flags. Countries, states, and provinces have their own flags. In some cultures families and/or tribes also have flags.

You'll make your own flag using ideas from other flags. And when you're done you can proudly display it on your fridge for the whole family to enjoy.

Step by Step:

  1. Check out a few books from your local library or download information about flags from the International Flag Database.
  2. Prepare your construction paper, markers, crayons, stick on stars, and moons. Whatever you'll need.
  3. Show your child pictures of our country's flag, your state or province, and flags of other countries, families and sports teams.
  4. Pretend your home is a special country and design a flag with your child for your home making sure to use symbols that represent something about your family and it's members.
  5. When it is finished, hang it up for all to see.
