Fingers and toes make fascinating and educational playthings.

Description:
In addition to the joy it brings, music is also important to a child's development, strengthening the ability to concentrate, increasing coordination through movement, and encouraging language development through exposure to new words and patterns. Finger play helps in the development of a child's fine motor skills.

Step by Step:

Place your baby in front of you and start wiggling your funny fingers by reciting "Ten Little Fingers."
Follow the action as the rhyme indicates:

I have ten little fingers
And they all belong to me.
I can make them do things.
Would you like to see?

I can shut them up tight
Or open them wide.

I can put them together
Or make them all hide.

I can make them jump high,
I can make them jump low,
I can fold them quietly
And hold them just so.

And I can tickle baby
Let's go,go,go!

For a tickly toe game, try "This Little Piggy." After your baby learns the rhyme, slow down on the last line to build anticipation.

This little piggy went to market (hold big toe),
This little piggy stayed home (hold second toe).
This little piggy had roast beef
(or tofu, or pizza - hold third toe),
This little piggy had none (hold fourth toe).
And this little piggy cried "wee, wee, wee,"
all the way home.
(tickle all the way up to the belly)

Materials:
Your hands
