Go Fly A Kite - Apr 12th, 2008
Use the windy days of Spring to have some fun making and flying a kite.
There's something magical about watching a kite catch a breeze, then dip and sway high up in the sky. The experience is made even more special when the kite is one you and your child made together. Take time to assemble your very own flying machine as spring approaches. When that first windy day arrives, you'll be ready to send your creation soaring.
Step by Step:
Materials:
Safety scissors
Poster board or oak tag
5 pieces of 8-inch ribbon
2 pieces of 18-inch yarn
Crayons or markers
Hole punch
Kite string

Step by Step:
- Help your child cut the poster board a diamond shape at least 12 inches long.
- Make the kite's tail by tightly tying the strands of ribbon to the piece of yarn. Space the pieces of ribbon equally.
- Have your child decorate or draw pictures on the kite.
- Punch a hole in one of the pointed sides of the kite. Thread yarn of tail through the hole and tie off tightly.
- Punch a hole at the bottom of the kite. Thread kite string through and tie off tightly.
