Snowflakes are one of the most beautiful creations in nature. This art activity provides an opportunity to learn about snowflakes and to make one. Though all are six-sided symmetrical crystals, no two are the same. As you make your folds and cuts, you'll discover limitless ways to make your own distinctive snowflakes. When you're finished, create a whole snowstorm by hanging them for the entire family to see.
Step by Step:
Materials:
White paper
Plate or bowl
Safety scissors
Glue
Dark-colored construction paper

Though all are six-sided symmetrical crystals, no two are the same. As you make your folds and cuts, you'll discover limitless ways to make your own distinctive snowflakes. When you're finished, create a whole snowstorm by hanging them for the entire family to see.
Step by Step:
- Lay the plate or bowl upside down on the white paper. Help your child trace around the rim. Cut out the circle.
- Fold white paper circle in half and then in thirds.
- Cut the design of the snowflake. Use scissors to cut out small shapes but don't cut away all the folds or the snowflake will fall apart.
- Gently open the snowflake to see what kind of design you've created.
- Glue snowflakes onto the dark paper or string from the ceiling.
