Discovery games are easy to play, and can be adapted to any age level.

Description:
Discovery games are fun for adults and older siblings because you can easily adapt them to different ages and abilities.

For the youngest players, use a limited number of distinctly dissimilar toys or other objects. To make the game more difficult, increase the number of objects, and choose items that are more similar in size and shape.

If you start out with an easy activity, your child will gain confidence and with each success will want to move on to more complex variations. This game is a version of Old Maid or Concentration. It will help to improve your child's memory and matching skills.

Step by Step:
  1. Place two or three objects on a tray or table.
  2. Name all the objects. Repeat for younger children.
  3. Tell your child to close his or her eyes.
  4. Quickly remove one object.
  5. Ask, "What's missing?" Encourage your child to guess.
  6. Repeat. Have your child remove an object and quiz you as well.

Materials:
Three of four common child-safe objects, such as:
A toy
Book
Stuffed animals
Crayon
Shoe
