Move your feet and step to the beat

Description:

Whether it is the exhilaration a toddler feels when beating on a bevy of kitchen pots, or the way a familiar tune can soothe a crying infant, music is a powerful influence in every child?s life.

In addition to the joy it brings, music is also important to a child?s development by strengthening the ability to concentrate, increasing coordination through movement, and encouraging language development through exposure to new words and patterns.

Step by Step:
1. Put on some music or sing a song.

2. Move to the beat. If your child isn't walking yet, pick her up and dance carry her as you dance away.

3. Do your favorite dances, or make up your own. Start with the dances you know, then make up new favorites and let the rhythm flow.

Try the waltz, mashed potato, polka, or "jump into my arms and kiss Mommy and Daddy dance."
