Splish! Splash! - Jul 7th, 2007
When your baby graduates to the big tub, it's time for water games.
Once your baby can sit up, it's time for him to graduate to the big tub and delight in tactile sensations such as splashing and slapping the water.

Bath time is also an opportunity to experiment. Babies will discover which objects float, and which sink. They'll learn how to fill containers with water and empty them. And they'll be thrilled when they master grabbing onto a bobbing toy!
Step by Step:- Test the bath water to make sure it's comfortably warm.
- Make sure you have everything you'll need, including towel, washcloth, soap, shampoo, and bath toys, before you put your baby in the tub.
- Gently dip your baby in the bath so he can feel the water and the security of your hands at the same time.
- Once the baby's soaking, encourage him or her to "pat the water" or "splish splash." Demonstrate if you need to.
- Teach your baby body parts as you bathe him: "This is the way we wash our ears...." Substitute toes, hands, and so on.
- Play with various bath toys such as a rubber duck or sponge blocks.
- If you're worried about getting wet, wear a plastic apron and a shower cap.
