Create holiday memories by visiting a local tree farm and letting your children pick their favorite tree.

Description:
Christmas tree farms offer learning opportunities this month as well as year round. You'll discover the process for growing and harvesting real Christmas trees and find out that in addition to providing traditions and memories, Christmas trees play an important role in creating a healthy environment. Many farms feature hayrides, Santa visits and hiking trails. After the holidays, don't just put your tree in the garbage, find a recycling center that accepts green material.

Step by Step:

  • Check you local phonebook for the nearest tree farm in your area or contact the National Christmas Tree Association to find a farm near you.
  • Talk to your child about what you are going to do.
  • Make a special trip of it.
  • Be sure to look at all the trees and see which one speaks to you.
  • Let your child see, feel, touch and smell the experience.
  • Pick out some great decorations.
  • Make a day of deorating your tree and spend some special together time.
  • Contact your nearest recycling center to inquire about tree recycling.
